Icy Isar Trails
Really wanted an Isar Trails ride this afternoon but they were covered with a layer of ice. Really wanted to buy some spike tyres this morning to ride on said layers of ice but it seems as if Germany is sold out of spikes. WTF!? Anyhow’s, Max and I just rolled the bikes North towards the center of town and aimed to just do some pics. Found a couple of spots at about 4pm and the light was shit. Luckily I had my low light secret weapon along, the Nikon D700, and bolted on my miserly old Nikkor 70-200mm vrI before dialing the ISO up to 4000.
The top pic is taken with the “Müllverbrennungsanlage” chimneys in the background. Took the pic with 170mm, f/2.8, 1/500sec, iso4000 at about 5pm. Getting results like this when it’s just about dark is pretty freaking great.
The bottom pic was taken about 30 mins earlier, again at iso 4000 and 110mm, f/2.8, 1/1000sec. In retrospect I could have taken 1/800 or even 1/640 and iso 3200 I suppose but either way the image quality is still very impressive for such a low level of light.
